Tap into MAGIC THINKING

Our team of volunteers built a simple and effective 7 habits change programme, including the ‘magic’ of blue foam soap and rewards that motivate children to a daily handwashing ritual. At schools, we introduce Luna, our illustrative character, who shows the children how to wash their hands. By using Luna, we tap into the children’s magical thinking and trigger the children to comprehend the situation while motivating them to follow Luna.

SCHOOLS COMMIT, CHILDREN CONNECT

Most children in developing countries haven’t been raised with hand washing as a priority. Even with the increase in the accessibility of water and soap, it seems difficult to change habits and increase hand hygiene. Determined to break that vicious circle, we started the programme in late 2019 at the Royal Gate School in Bondo, Kenya. We created over 5,000 handwashing moments, and researched it like a documentary. Later, the Bondo community and school teachers continued the programme and added new children in the program. This built evidence for our approach. Now, we work with hundreds of children and teachers everyday and create thousands of handwashing moments.

We start at the Royal Gate School in Bondo, Kenya.
As we demonstrate results, we decide to push to include more schools in Kenya.
We experience the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on school closures for nearly 2 years.
We include the first school in Uganda, namely the Karugaya school in the Bunyangabu district.
In The Netherlands, we start with the Kindate schools in Limburg.
We expand in Kenya by reaching out to more schools, such as the Estel Children Home in Nairobi.
The ambition to grow the number of children with a strong handwashing routine remains!
Hand Washing Angels is actively operating in Kenya, Uganda and The Netherlands.
In the second half of the year, the programme will expand to Asia in Mumbai (India) and Hanoi (Vietnam).
Furthermore, we sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Diversey, and will partner with the Soap for Hope programme to reach more schools.
